Hall Dodge will be having Employee Appreciation Day on May 4th from 2-5pm. Mr. George Ransom the GM is doing this for all the
hard work that Hall Dodge does on a daily basis, and also for us at the show and shines that we have been a part of.
Everything that goes on at our events are Hall employees, dedicating there time to make sure we have a good time.
They are going to be having some fun and game type stuff this day for there families to have a good time, however,
usually the folks that run the stuff are employee's, I know what your thinking how are they having any fun with
there families if they are working the games and stuff, I dunno either????.
However, it would be nice to pay back Hall Dodge for just a few hours and give them a hand in there cause to have some fun.

we only need 5-8 people, oh and Scott will be cooking on the BBQ, so naturally I will be there.

From the Prez Rick & the Street Rodders:
Have you heard
about a DMV inspector coming to people's home to verify if they are
legal as far as registration and license tags go? Below is an e-mail
that I forward to my club members. Brian is a friend of ours and he
said the inspector was once a State Police Officer and has a badge to
back him up as to being who he says he is. Brian said the inspector was
very business like and was not trying to give him a hard time, just
doing his job. Brian changed his tags some time ago to regular street
tags because he drives thousands of miles a year on road tours. He does
not have Antique or Vintage tags on his car.
Tonight I spoke to Brian Bell who most of you already know
and he told me some news that we all should be aware of. DMV sent an
inspector to his home to check on his 36 Auburn replica (red and silver
Boat-tail Roadster). DMV might pull his title (1976 year of
manufacture) and reissue it as a 1936.
Brian changed from antique tags to current vanity tags almost 2
years ago. I believe his tag says DA JA VU or something to that effect.
They were at his home for about 2 1/2 hours, wanted to verify his VIN
#, motor and transmission #'s and such. He had all of this information
before he got to Brian's house. Something raised a flag about his car
to bring this on, BUT Brian said DMV is starting to crack down on all
sorts of things now.
The inspector told Brian that the ONLY vehicles that can
display antique tags are vehicles that are factory stock with NO
modifications. The inspector has a computer in his car to check all of
the tags in the DMV data base and HE HAS THE AUTHORITY TO PULL YOUR
TAGS ON THE SPOT! We think that vintage tags (year of vehicle) are not
part of this, just the black and the yellow antique tags. He also told
Brian that those people that have purchased a title from other sources
that are not for their vehicle are breaking the law. Also the folks who
made their own antique vanity tags are being checked into. Brian will
hear from DMV in about 2 weeks, if not he is to call them for his
status.
I will try and contact some folks who may a little more about
this and get back to you at that time. If you have the antique tags,
you may want to think about this because almost everyone one of us have
many modifications on our vehicles. Is your vehicle factory stock?
We may want to see if this inspector can give us a run down on
these regulations at one of our meetings before we find out on the side
of the highway one day with no tags.

Virginia Beach Hall Dodge is sponsoring a fund raiser for
the Special Olympics Sat 1/26 11am-2pm
From Prez Rick:
We have a unique opportunity to help out a great organization, the Special Olympics,
On Saturday the 26th of January, Scott Benson and his wife (whose name eludes me at
the moment) will be doing a fund raising drive to collect contributions for the Polar
Plunge from roughly 11-2 at Hall Dodge in Virginia Beach. They would like a few old
Mopars to come out and be on display for those few hours. I think it'}s a great
cause and I for one will be there weather permitting. After doing the Mayflower
Marathon with Bob K and AJ this is another worthy cause.
Scott will also be cooking up some Nathan\x{2019}s hot dogs to keep us warmed up
that day.. So if you can support this on such notice please drop me a line to confirm.

"A WELCOME BACK CELEBRATION DAY FOR THE IRAQI VETS"
on Saturday November 3rd at the V A Hospital in Phoebus
They would like the cars to come out from 11 am till 3 pm. The event will be
held past the nursing home facility. Go past the main front entrance of the
hospital facing sea wall and there is a field where every thing will be.
It is in a nice area next to the water. It is a fun time for all with lots
of music, food etc. I know they would be grateful and love to see the cars.
Joe Lewis from the Hampton Veteran's Hospital asks that you contact him at

OCTANE MAGAZINE ANNOUNCES CHANGE IN PUBLISHING CYCLE
Portsmouth,
VA - Octane Magazine Publisher, Dan Hankin, announced last week that
Octane Magazine will be published on a quarterly cycle, instead of the
current bi-monthly cycle, beginning in January, 2007. Hankin said,
"Publishing fewer issues per year will allow us to put together bigger
and better issues moving forward." In preparation for the upcoming
changes, the September/October and November/December 2006 issues of
Octane will not be published, and instead will be rolled into the
January, 2007 issue.

From Prez Bill:
It has been a while since my last update on the project. We have been making good progress.
The car is in primer. The floor pans have been installed, the rear quarter panels
have been hung, and we are in progress of installing the vertical door hinges.
While body work is ongoing as Squidly's Customs, our trip to Carlisle was very productive
for getting work moving on other components of the build. We want to welcome SMS
restoration on board as a sponsor. SMS will be restoring the hood hinges, emergency
brake assembly, and steering column for the car. They may also restore the heater box
for the car. MOPAINTS is also a new sponsor who is donating interior paint that is
specifically designed to match the upholstery. Penstar Reproductions offered to assist
the club again this year by donating parts to the build. Front end components were
dropped off with Totally Auto for plating. And finally, we dropped off the interior
of the car with Legendary Interiors so it could be remanufactured. Legendary is
going to start to reproduce the door panels for the 68 Fury, specifically to support
this project. We thank them for their years of support. One club member offered the
panels out of his original 68 fury for use as patterns for legendary make the reproductions.
I'm also please to say I had the opportunity at Carlisle to speak with the editor of
Mopar Collector's Guide Magazine, who requested to do a photo shoot and article
of the club project Fury once it is complete.
I've attached a number of pictures of the recent progress. Enjoy looking at them.
A complete set of pictures will be posted on the Tidewater Mopar Club website.
I also want to remind club sponsors to take pictures of the work that you do on
the parts for this car. You can send me the pictures and any supporting articles or
descriptions and we will include the information in the next issue of Octane magazine,
as well as on flyers that will be distributed with the car when campaigned on the
national Mopar show circuit in 2007.

Carlisle
was an awesome show again this year. I arrived at 7am Thursday morning
and over half of the vendors were already set up. Thursdays at Carlisle
are like Friday's used to be 5 years ago. For those who like to do your
parts shopping early, consider attending the event on Thursday next
year if the weather looks good.
There
were a few items left at the club vendor space at Carlisle. I brought
them back with me. Contact me if you are missing something from the
show.
There are no show plans for the club this weekend.
We will be working on the
give away car Wednesday and Friday evenings after 6pm, and
Saturday from 10am-10pm. Club members can come and go as desired to work or simply socialize.
For those who are not skilled with body work, which is the bulk of the current work, there are
some mechanical things to do as well. The floor of the car has been installed and
we are working on the trunk. For those who are interested in seeing the
installation of the vertical door hinges, we should have the first one installed this week.
I will send photos and sponsor updates in a separate e-mail later this week.

We are planning on filming Give Away Car work Monday night after 5pm.
The new floor pan has been fit up and we have installed heavy duty subframe
connectors to ensure the body can withstand the force of the Turbo Charged HEMI that is going in the Fury.
We will film the installation and welding of the cars floors and trunk sections.
The car is really starting to take shape.
I will send updated pictures of the car after Monday night.
CARLISLE:
Next weekend is the All Chrysler Nationals at Carlisle.
The weather forecast looks awesome. This should be a great year!
The club has four vendor spaces located at IA1.
This is at the end of the first row of vendors, just inside gate two.
All club members are welcome to put parts for sale at these spaces.
Here are some simple guidelines we follow during the Carlisle show.
- We will have free drinks on site for club members all weekend.
-
We will be camping at the vendor space overnight, so you may store
parts there daily. I am also planning on bringing my enclosed trailer
to the show, so there is weather protection and security for parts of
greater value. We will have markers and labels at the show so you can
mark your name and SOLD on any parts you buy and store at the vendor
space.
-
I may have room to haul some large parts back to VA for club members,
check with me before you make the purchase to reserve space in the
enclosed trailer.
-
I will travel to the show Wednesday morning and return late Sunday
afternoon. Club members can pick up the parts I transport for them at
my home in Norfolk upon my return.
-
If possible, club members are asked help out at the vendor space for an
hour or two during the weekend. We will be selling club T-shirts and
parts stripped from the 67 Fury and other club parts cars to generate
funds for the club.
- If selling parts, ensure your name, price, and vehicle type is marked on your parts.
-
Do not ask other club members to haggle the price of your part. You may
leave the part on the space while you shop provided you list a €˜no
haggle price on it€™, or you may stay on the space and haggle yourself.
Do not expect another club member to remember the price of your part,
or try to sell it for you when it is not labeled and you are not there.
-
We manage money by keeping a separate envelop in the cash box with each
club member€™s name on it who is selling parts. As your parts are sold
the money is placed in your envelop if you are not there.
6/30/2006 Have a nice weekend everyone. We have no organized club car shows,
but there are some things of interest this weekend I recommend attending:
Friday night and all day Saturday we will be back to work on the
Fury
Charity Project. We are setting up a filming session for Monday, 7/3.
The exact time of the filming will is yet to be determined, and will
depend upon the amount of prep work done this weekend. I'll send
out an update on Sunday.
Founder of the Jenro's Saturday night cruise in passes:
Mike's father passed away Monday, and Mike has requested that some show
cars be present for the funeral. The obit will be in Friday paper.
Web site www.mem.com. It was Mr. Lambasico that started the cruz- in.
They always tried to have us a place for the car folks to meet.
Mike picked up his legacy when he grew old. The services are at
St Gregory's Catholic church on VA Beach Blvd in VA Beach. The cars
should be there by 10:15 Monday. Please come help us pay our respects.
The President of the Car Club Council of Hampton Roads, Dee Nienstedt,
can be contacted for additional information at 456-2211. The viewing
is Sunday at rosewood Kelmn on witchduck where the cemetery is. 6-8
pm. Please pass the word.

We are currently setting up for the next "Street Vision Garage"
filming session of the Tidewater Mopar Fury charity project. The
car body has been blasted and is primed. We have welded close all
trim holes in the fenders and trunk lid. The next step is to fit up
the floors and fabricate trunk wells for the suspension air tanks.
Our next filming session will show the metal work of the car going
together, and will likely occur some time before 7/4. Club
members please plan on a big work night this Friday night 6/30, as
well as some work this weekend.

Sponsor and Materials Status
Borg-Warner has come on board and donated a new 2006 HEMI R/T engine
to the project. This was a research motor used to design and test
a new Borg-Warner Turbo Charging system for the HEMI R/T. The
motor comes complete with the Turbo system and produces in excess of
600HP on pump gas. VERY EXCITING! The crankshaft and other
bottom end components have also been upgraded to handle the high horsepower.
GT Factory has donated a vertical door hinge kit for the project.
We have also received the door poppers.
The Instrument panel and dash chrome items have been shipped to Auto Instruments for reconditioning.
Next week we will deliver the following items to sponsors during the All Chrysler Nationals in Carlisle PA.
Complete Interior > Legendary Interiors
Brake, Trans, Fuel Lines > Finelines
Steering Box > Steer & Geer
Various small parts for plating > Totally Auto
Sponsor Problem:
I want to share a recent problem that occurred with a proposed sponsor
of the project so everyone understands the rules we must follow when
building the Fury. The Virginia Gaming commission prohibits charity
organizations from using raffle proceeds to purchase the items to be
used for a raffle. As such, the Tidewater Mopar Club (a 501.c.(3)
charity organization) can not rely on raffle proceeds pay for materials
and services used to construct the Fury Raffle car. It is also
extremely difficult to build a car without spending some money on
incidentals. During our previous ten builds, we sold spare parts to
cover these costs, which typically totaled between $100-$500.
The Fury construction was delayed a week when a new blasting sponsor
reneged on his commitment to donate his blasting and priming services.
We approached Flatlander's Hot Rod shop to perform the sand blasting
and priming for the Fury body because they were a well known, east
coast shop. After clearly receiving a commitment that their work would
be donated, we delivered the car and arranged for the filming of
"Street Vision Garage" from their location. When the blasting was
complete, they requested a full price payment of $1300 for their work.
This was very disappointing and was the first time in the history of
our charity car builds that a business attempted to take advantage of
our charity organization. To get the car back, Squidly's customs
negotiated a lower price and paid the blasting cost for the club. This
action placed an unexpected financial burden on Squidly's shop and as a
result, shop work had to be diverted from the Fury project in order to
generate the needed revenue.
I want to pass along a special thanks to Squidly's for their
exceptional support of this build. I also want pass the hat to club
members and sponsors to help defray this extra cost. Squidly's Customs
has already donated a tremendous amount to this project and it is too
early in the build to sell spare parts to recoup this loss. If each
club member could send $10, it would easily offset this loss. Checks
can be mailed to the Tidewater Mopar Club, PO Box 694, Newport News VA
23607. Thank you.
Flatlander's Hot Rod Shop has been removed from the list of project sponsors.
Mid Range Planning:
We are making arrangements to debut the car during the 2006 SEMA show
in Las Vegas on October 31st. Club members interested in participating
in this event should plan vacation accordingly. I will send updates as
received.

Monday
evening after 4pm Bob Kinker has asked club members to come down and
finish the final disassembling of the 4door fury parts car for the club
project. Bob said he will have burgers on the grill available for those
of us who go there directly from work.
I want to thank Bob for being such a gracious host to the club and for
letting us work on the parts cars at his place. It is time for us to
get what is left of the Fury parts car out of his driveway.
